Westside - leisure and shopping centre

In the west of the city of Bern a leisure and shopping centre was designed and planned by the world-famous architect Daniel Liebeskind. This centre includes a large variety of uses, for example a shopping centre, cinemas, a hotel, appartments, an adventure pool and much more. The area of "westside" evolves into a meeting place and an architectonic landmark with international quality.

Emch+Berger AG Berne developed the overall transport and traffic concept, including the traffic management and detailed site development as well as the impact environment assessment. The main focus was on the estimation of the future transport demand and an appraisal of the effects (noise, pollutants, etc.) as well as the conception of measures to mitigate the negative impacts of traffic.

Additionally to the access of this area to the major road network (including a connection to the highway network) the main focus of access was on the public transport including a new tramline and a station of a regional train.
