Traffic models / simulations

Forecasts for prospective traffic demands, traffic distribution, modal split and traffic load are the basis for evaluating the impacts of planned concepts and measures. Prospective traffic loads and other key values are calculated with traffic models based on predicted parameters, key values, empirical findings and social-demographic characteristics. Estimated traffic volumes and diversion streams support the conception and provide performance capability verifications for existing and projected systems.

Presently, traffic process simulations are a meaningful and even indispensable tool for some problem areas. They are important for the assessment of performance capabilities, dynamic procedures and also for a clear visualisation of the impacts of planned measures, e.g. as an aid for participation processes.

The application of mathematical and simulative methods for determining traffic demand, traffic distribution, route selection, travelling times, time loss, traffic jam lengths on routes or in traffic nodes based on recognised models and empirical findings is not a commonplace task. Numerous very specific and exceptional problem areas arise, that require the adaptation of models, procedures or software for the development of targeted solutions.
